Plans for a new building

As a result of the excellent collaboration between the Directors of the Centre for Ophthalmology, as well as collaborations between members of the University Eye Hospital and
the Institute for Ophthalmic Research, the components of the Centre have continued to grow together since its foundation. These collaborations have enabled an effi cient implementation
of the stipulated goals and effective long term strategic, structural and topical planning. The net effect of this synergistic relationship is that the Centre holds a leading position in ophthalmology at the regional, national, and international level.

Both the clear vision that links research, teaching and patient care and the activities of the Eye-Hospital during its 100th anniversary celebration: ‘A Joint Vision for the Future – 100 years University Eye Hospital’ have encouraged the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Sciences, the Universitaetsklinikum Tuebingen and the Faculty of Medicine Tuebingen to jointly give top priority to the erection of a new building for the Centre for Ophthalmology – superceding all other building

New Building

Start of construction is planned for the end of 2011; move-in for 2014

New BuildingThis is an important milestone that will unify the Hospital and the Institute in a single location so that in-house synergetic effects can be further strengthened. Currently, the research groups
are spread over 11 different locations throughout Tuebingen. By means of the new Centre building, patient, research and teaching facilities will be updated to refl ect current international standards.

The new premises for the Centre for Ophthalmology will not only be located right next to the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, but the buildings will also be functionally connected at a number of locations and thereby enhance the ongoing scientifi c cooperation with the Tuebingen Hearing Research Centre.
